AUSTRALIAN super middleweight Zac Dunn kept his undefeated record in tact, surviving a second round knockdown to post a split decision win over Derrick Findley.
Dunn (now 19-0 15 KOs) faced durable veteran and perennial tough guy Derrick Findley (22-17-1 14 KOs) and the duo engaged in a closely contested ten round battle with Dunn winning a thrilling split decision.
Two of the three ringside officials had the Melburnian winning by a singular point at 95-94, while the third judge rendered the same score in favour of Findley.
From the opening bell Dunn, 24, and Findley, 31, went toe-to-toe, throwing bombs in a nonstop fashion.
Midway through the second round, Findley caught Dunn pulling back after an exchange with a big left, dropping the Aussie on the seat of his pants.
Dunn jumped right up and continued his attack on Findley, dominating the rest of the round.
The pattern continued for the remainder of the fight with Dunn as the aggressor and throwing at an extremely high volume of punches, while Findley countered with huge shots of his own.
The final three rounds saw Dunn’s relentless pressure and sustained head and body attack increase as he outpaced the cagey and gutsy veteran.
The crowd sensed Dunn’s quest for another knockout, yet when the bell sounded for round ten, both fighters roared out from their corners and let it all hang out.
DeGuardia, whose company Star Boxing recently signed Dunn to a long-term promotional pact was jubilant with his fighters debut win on American soil.
“What an incredible fight tonight,” said DeGuardia. “Zac Dunn and Derrick Findley showed unbelievable heart and the desire to win,”
“This ranks among the most captivating fights I’ve seen all year and Dunn clearly showed what a fan friendly-style he has.”
