THE promotional tenure of Lynden Hosking has been short, but not without its highlights.
The regional-based promoter continues his foray into Melbourne with a second offering at the Melbourne Park Function Centre in three months with Andrew and Jason Moloney headlining the aptly titled event ‘The Ones’.
The card was originally slated to feature the Moloney brothers alongside equally talented duo in former Australian light welterweight champion Qamil Balla, two-division national titleholder Ibrahim Balla and Michael Zerafa.
But as Hosking notes, his transition into the Melbourne boxing market has not come without its hiccups.
“It’s our second show in Melbourne; it should be a bit easier this time after the first,” said Hosking to Aus-Boxing.
“To be honest, it was a bit of an eye opener after doing regional shows.”
“Unfortunately, both the Balla brothers and Michael Zerafa had to pull out for various reasons. But in saying that, we have filled the card and it should be an action packed night. We have eight fights on the card Saturday night.”
“The Moloney brothers, Jason and Andrew are fighting in the semi and main events. It should be action packed,”
Andrew, the lighter of the twins, defends his WBA Oceania strap against former world title challenger Jether Oliva, while Jason defends his equivalent belt against seasoned import Gerpaul Valero, also over ten heats.
“All the fights have been matched carefully and it will be a fantastic night,” he added. “We also have two female fights with Cherneka Johnson and Sylvia Scharper on the card. Hopefully we can match them up next year.”
While Hosking has been a near permanent fixture in the Moloney corner for several fights, Saturday night will officially mark the beginning of their professional relationship after Hosking signed the duo in August.
As Hosking explains, the working relationship developed organically and from all points of view, it is a natural fit.
“I’ve known the Moloney boys for many years now,” he explained.
“There was never any pressure for them to come along with me,”
“I have just done my thing and they have done their thing. It got to the point where they made a decision about needing a promoter – and after speaking to a few people – they ended up signing with Hosking Promotions.”
“I’m absolutely flattered as they are quality guys and gun fighters. I have no doubt they are going to get to the top,”
“I will do everything I can to help them get there.”
“After this show I would like to really build their profiles up,” he concluded. “They have an awesome support base here in Melbourne and I’m sure they will all be out in force on Saturday night supporting the twins.”
