UNBEATEN cruiserweight Jason Whateley will headline his first event in just his third professional fight.

The former Olympian and Commonwealth Games silver medallist has joined forces with former world champion Will Tomlinson and his promotional start-up, WILDFIGHTER.

The inaugural event will take place on Saturday March 23rd at new boxing venue, The Timber Yard.

Joining Whateley (2-0, 1 KO) will be joined by former amateur stand-out Daniel Lewis, who will make his professional debut on the night.

Event promoter Tomlinson revealed his delight at securing some of Australia’s most promising talent for his promotional debut.

“I’ve got a real mix of talent,” said Tomlinson to Aus-Boxing.

“My idea for WILDFIGHTER is to focus on fighters that I see with the potential and ability to win fights, build a name for themselves and a potentially win a world title.

“Working with fellow East Gippsland boys like Jason Whateley and Blake Wells excites me.”

Despite having secured several Victorian prospects, Tomlinson believes the acquisition of Lewis highlights his ambition to create a truly national roster of fighters.

“I really want to try and fill the void of becoming a nationwide promotional business,” he explained.

“I don’t want to segregate myself by only working with Victorian fighters. I’m open to working with anyone in the country, providing I see their potential to one day reach world level.

“With that said, I’m very happy with the stable of fighters that I’m launching with.”

Part of the bespoke experience Tomlinson will provide is the in-venue environment offered by the recently completed venue, The Timber Yard.

The Port Melbourne-based facility gives the promoter the unique opportunity to host both indoor and outdoor events, unlike anything currently in the marketplace.

“I feel that it’s a statement and I’m going to match that with good production and an awesome new and fresh venue,” he concluded.

“Although there are many good venues in Melbourne, I really wanted to break away from the pack and establish my own identity as a promoter.

“I have an open-minded attitude and I want to work with other promoters and managers who have the same ambitions as me.

“I feel like I’m onto a winner with The Timber Yard, it’s such a diverse space. If the Melbourne weather permits, we can look at an outdoor event later in the year.”
