Moloney Brothers, Mitchell post dominant stoppage wins
THE Moloney brothers were given two very different challenges, but the end result proved to be the same.
The tenacious twins, both 26, improved their unbeaten professional ledgers to an impressive thirteen wins from as many outings, with both disposing of their willing Mexican challengers inside of the distance.
Jason (now 13-0, 11 KOs) showed why he is labelled as one of the best attacking threats in Australian boxing, using his trademark aggression and ruthlessness to break down the attack of a dangerous Emanuel Armendariz, who admirably tried to trade fire with fire.
However, as the old adage suggests, don’t hook with a hooker. Unfortunately for the Los Mochis resident, he was on the receiving end of a perfect left hook in the fifth round, whilst in the motion of throwing one of his own.
Armendariz (now 12-3-2, 5 KOs) stumbled towards the ropes, where a fast-finishing Moloney swarmed in and got the finish with referee Tony Maretta waving the contest without a count. The capable import refuted the stoppage with great contempt, but the end result looked like an inevitability as the world rated super bantamweight was in fine form.

Meanwhile, the alternating twin Andrew (now 13-0, 8 KOs), put on a polished clinic against a towering Aramis Solis (now 16-5, 9 KOs), who folded in three relatively one-sided rounds.
The former Commonwealth Games gold medallist boxed with poise, working behind a high guard, while patiently breaking down his more experienced foe with his darting jab. Solis, 31, showed his experience when working on the inside, but offered little interest in trading when positioned inside the pocket.
The end came in the third stanza when the relocated Melburnian forced Solis into a corner while bullying his way into a strong stance. A fierce left hook to the Mexican’s body followed, and although Moloney was cautioned for punching low in the exchange, Solis was ultimately counted out with minimal fuss.
Having secured the win, Moloney has now defended his WBA affiliated regional strap three times, and will continue to position himself for an eventual title eliminator in the next twelve months.
In the remaining title fight of the evening, popular Peninsula resident Jayde Mitchell continued his ascension towards an inevitable collision with the hard-hitting Bilal Akkawy by disposing of their common opponent, Istvan Zeller in five heats.
Mitchell, 31, quickly grew frustrated with the negative tactics of his more experienced Hungarian opponent, but showed patience when cutting off the ring and forcing Zeller (now 37-16, 11 KOs) to exchange.
The unified regional titleholder eventually caught Zeller with a short hook to the body in the fifth round, albeit with less force than the aforementioned Moloney, which felled Zeller for the full ten count. Mitchell (now 13-1, 8 KOs) will now shift his attention to Ainiwaer Yilixiati, who he will face in a defence of his OPBF super middleweight strap next month.
