Michael Zerafa set for a challenge of a different kind in Charity Run
TALENTED middleweight prospect Michael Zerafa is used to pushing his body to the limits.
Zerafa, 22, an avid runner and fitness fanatic, is looking to run an approximate 800 kilometre journey from Melbourne to Sydney – all in the name of charity – with all profits raised going to the Royal Childrens Hospital.
Although Zerafa is traditionally known for throwing leather, the once-beaten prospect is looking to temporarily trade his gloves for shoes in this truly remarkable gesture.
“I have been thinking about participating in a significant charity event for a while, but couldn’t quite choose between the several ones available,” said Zerafa in an exclusive interview with Aus-Boxing.
“The idea was very spontaneous but it complimented my career and my willingness to aid children in need. I also love challenging myself both physically and mentally and I know this will be a perfect avenue to do so.”
“Initially, I tried to choose a specific charity to aid, but that was too hard,” Zerafa added. “Being a role model for the younger generation, I aim to help any foundation within the Children’s Hospital in urgent need,”
While no date has been announced, the Craigieburn-based Zerafa is looking to make the run for charity in April.
What makes the already selfless gesture more spectacular is the fact that Zerafa (16-1, 8 KOs) is scheduled to participate in a ten-round fight with England’s George Hillyard (11-6-1, 5 KOs) on March 27th, meaning Zerafa could be sporting a few bumps and bruises for his dual efforts.
“Running is extremely vital in my training regime,” Zerafa said. “I ensure that I run approximately 15-30 kilometres per day in rain, hail or shine.”
“I run long distances on a daily basis,” said Zerafa in closing. “I know that this run can only make me physically and mentally stronger.”
