Valentine Borg: “I am now ready for a big year”

WITH an eight-month layoff now firmly behind him, once beaten prospect Valentine Borg is looking to have a breakout 2015 campaign.

The confident lightweight returns tomorrow night at the Emporium Function Centre in Bankstown against Tom Ford for a WBO affiliated bauble over ten rounds.

“I had a injury that I suffered towards the end of last year, so I just kept fit and enjoyed the time off being a normal person for a bit over the Christmas and New Year period,” said Borg in an exclusive interview with Aus-Boxing.

“But I still kept fit by doing some light training. I am now ready for a big year,”

“I’m fighting for the WBO Asia Pacific Youth title as well as having another fight at end of March,” Borg continued. “It’ll be just a hard six rounder that will keep me active,”

In many ways, Borg (8-1, 5 KOs) has endured a frustrating past twelve months.

The once beaten prospect lost his unbeaten record, being stopped in a shock fifth round knockout to Joebert Delos Reyes for the IBO Youth strap – before rebounding to score two quick wins by August – only to be get injured and spend the rest of the year on the sidelines.

Despite this, an upbeat Borg is looking to make up for lost time by fighting twice in the space of a month, first against Tom Ford for regional honours and then a six-round matchup with relocated UK native Andrew Wallace.

“I’m looking to keep very active this year and I would love to get as any fights under my belt as possible to gain some good experience and ring rounds to better my career,”

“This year I would like to get some good opportunities and a bit of exposure with media and television for my fights,” Borg continued. “I want to show my ability and what I can bring to the table to hopefully build a good name for myself while I’m up and coming,”

“Hopefully I’ll get some another chance at a big title, which is the plan but there’s no one that I’m really seeking to fight,” said Borg in closing.

“Anyone that has what I want, I will try to pursue and continue to better myself and my rankings,”
