Weigh-In Results: Luke Jackson 57.00 vs. John Mark Apolinario 56.60
LUKE Jackson and John Mark Apolinario met for the first time at their official weigh-in last night.
Jackson, 31, and Apolinario, 26, will collide for the vacant WBA Oceania featherweight title and a potential world rating at the Hobart City Hall in Tasmania, headlining a five-fight card presented by Fightcard Promotions.
“The weight cut is never easy,” said Jackson shortly after making weight.
“It takes every ounce of discipline and dedication to make it and that’s what I’ve done. I’ve worked extremely hard and I’ve been very strict on my nutrition with the help of Ray Kelly I’ve made it as comfortable as possible,”
The undefeated former Olympic captain and Commonwealth Games representative was quick to thank his loyal Tasmanian support base, who have backed their local fighter ahead of his second professional fight at home.
“Tasmania is amazing place to live. The support I have received over the the last thirteen years of my career has been great. We have sold 55 tables for this show and had to open upstairs to make room,”
“It’s going to be a packed house.”
Jackson (10-0, 5 KOs) is hoping to become only the third fighter in 28 professional outings to halt the durable and upset-minded Filipino, who has fought for versions of the WBA bantamweight title on three occasions.
However, the confident former Australian featherweight champion expects to see the best of Apolinario tonight.
“I always expect the best version of any fighter I face,” he added.
“I’ve worked very hard in camp as always so I’m ready for the best version of Apolinario there is.”
“I put so much in to this sport. I give up so much to go away and train in Sydney with Billy Hussein at Bodypunch Boxing Gym. I have everything I want in Tasmania and I’m very comfortable with my new gym,”
“I believe this year will be my breakout year.”
