Andrew Moloney signs for high-risk Luis Concepcion

SUPER flyweight sensation Andrew Moloney can validate his world title credentials with another marquee win.

The unbeaten pocket dynamo will defending his WBA Oceania strap against former two-time world champion Luis Concepcion in a fight that seems destined to produce fireworks. The championship fight will be the tentpole event, marking the opening of the new Bendigo Stadium on September 8th.

Concepcion (37-6, 26 KOs) boasts an impressive resume having previously held the WBA flyweight and WBA super flyweight world titles, along with an interim version of the WBC super flyweight title, highlighting the legitimacy of his stature in a stacked super flyweight division.

It goes without saying that the 32-year-old Panamanian will be the biggest test yet for the unbeaten Moloney (17-0, 10 KOs), who has now competed five times as a super flyweight.

The 27-year-old Australian is gunning for an opportunity to challenge reigning WBA super flyweight ruler Kal Yafai. Ironically, the unbeaten Englishman earned his title by dethroning Concepcion in 2016.

Concepcion is no stranger to travelling, having beat Japanese icon Kohei Kono for the WBA super flyweight title in Japan, along with David Sanchez in Mexico.

“He always comes to fight and puts a lot of pressure on his opponents, I know that I will have to be in great condition for this fight. I’m very familiar with Concepcion as I have watched him many times over the years. He has always been one of the top guys in the division.”

Twin brother Jason Moloney face Puerto Rican IBF bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez in the quarter-final of the World Super Series on a date to be determined.
