Aus-Boxing Awards 2016 – Knockout of the Year: Zac Dunn
ZAC Dunn was expected to handle Rogerio Damasco with relative ease.
The well-travelled Brazilian import had been disposed of in a singular round in a scrappy finish by Kiwi mauler Robert Berridge in 2014, meaning a similar fate was most likely on the cards. The finish didn’t take long as the Melburnian ended proceedings in the opening stanza.
However, it was the brutal nature of the knockout that left people talking and crowned Dunn with the HK Clothing Knockout of the Year. This is Dunn’s second consecutive year where he has won an award, following up from his Performance of the Year accolade in 2015.
The popular 26-year-old gave the home crowd a taste of what was to come when he launched a pawing jab towards Damasco, before marginally missing with his trademark overhand right in the neutral corner. However, Damasco was deterred by this and continued to stand in the pocket.
Dunn took advantage of Damasco’s careless approach to defending and followed by with an identical combination to the aforementioned – with his right hand landing flush – which flattened the South American, who was saved by the ropes.
The former IBO super middleweight titleholder followed up with an additional hook before referee Jim Boland eventually waved the contest.
