Brad Pitt confirmed for November 22nd SUPER 8 Tournament

AUSTRALIA’s premier cruiserweight, Brad “Hollywood” Pitt will headline the SUPER 8 Trans Tasman Cruiserweight 8 man elimination tournament on the under card of the Kali Meehan vs Shane Cameron SUPER FIGHT in Auckland, New Zealand on November 22nd.

The 2006 Commonwealth Games Heavyweight Gold medalist, has been rated as high as tenth in the world and is the former IBO Asia Pacific and Australian cruiserweight champion.

Pitt will start strong favourite in a talent-stacked line up being assembled by SUPER 8 matchmaker Mark Keddell, who has also confirmed Aussie number three Daniel Ammann and expects to announce two more top Australian fighters in the coming weeks.

“We’ve deliberately targeted top regional talent for this tournament – we’ve declined numerous requests from top tier international fighters because we want to develop pathways for Australasian fighters through the SUPER 8 tournament.”

“Kicking off with Australia’s top cruiser on board is an exciting prospect. Brad is fast, explosive, has world-class skills and really epitomizes the appeal of the Cruiserweight division, which is flying high globally right now.

“He was on the fast track to a world title when our kiwi boy David Aloua derailed him in April and this is the perfect opportunity for redemption and to potentially force a rematch on future SUPER 8 Cards.”

“The fact that world-rated cruiserweight, Aloua is defending the titles he won from Pitt, against Daniel Baff on the same card, simply adds spice to the mix.”

Melbourne based Pitt, fancies his chances of toppling three opponents in one night and believes the format suits his explosive style.”

“Most fighters in pro ranks are used to longer duration bouts, but these are short sprints, you need to rack up the points or knock them out.”

“With my amateur grounding, I know how to fight three-rounders’ and have proven I can knock people out cold in the pro ranks. It feels tailor made for me to clean out the backyard in one night and push for a rematch with David Aloua – that’s the fight I want.”

Australia’s own former IBO cruiserweight champion, Danny Green, see’s the SUPER 8 elimination style tournament as an ideal platform to showcase Australasian talent.

“It’s great to see SUPER 8 investing regionally – there is no need to look overseas, with the depth of talent locally.

“The likes of Brad Pitt and David Aloua are progressing nicely and have the potential to become world class fighters and this kind of event is the ideal way to build their profile and confidence to take a step up to the next level.”
