Brandon Ogilvie recaps training camp, chasing big fights

BRANDON Ogilvie is aiming to put a dramatic halt on the hype train that is Darragh Foley.

The talented Indigenous ace will put his world rating and his WBA affiliated regional title on the line against the brash Irishman on Saturday night as the headline act of a stacked nine fight bill at Sydney’s Netball Central.

Having relocated to Sydney more than a week before the fight, Ogilvie believes he is primed to perform.

“I’m feeling very relaxed and positive,” said Ogilvie to Aus-Boxing. “I know I’ve done the hard work in the gym.”

The 22-year-old is riding an imposing nine-fight win streak, dating back to 2013. Ogilvie (14-1, 7 KOs) believes those fights, which include wins over veterans Roy Tua Manihuruk and Eddy Comaro, have helped him mature.

With the proverbial learner plates now removed, Ogilvie is ready to chase bigger fights, starting with Foley.

“It doesn’t matter who I fight,” said Ogilvie when asked about Foley’s impressive recent form. “From now on every fight is important because my world rating is on the line and that’s something that I refuse to give up,”

Ogilvie holds a loft WBA #10 world rating at lightweight. Providing he is successful on Saturday, he is within reaching distance of the divisions bigger names, including reigning WBA lightweight titleholder Anthony Crolla.

“I wouldn’t be fighting Foley if he wasn’t knocking people out,” admitted Ogilvie. “I want the big fights,”

While Ogilvie wouldn’t go into the particulars, he believes one attribute will separate himself from Foley.

“I have mad skills,” he concluded. “And a boxer will always beat a banger.”
