Darragh Foley: “I am the number one lightweight in Australia”

SYDNEY based Irishman Darragh Foley is a man of few words.

The quietly spoken 27-year-old promised a signature win on Saturday night against Valentine Borg, to which he delivered in astounding fashion.

Foley (now 7-1, 5 KOs) scored three knockdowns against the WBO #15 world rated Borg (now 10-2, 7 KOs), two inside the opening stanza, before being crowned victorious in the sixth round of their eight round stoush.

Despite scoring the biggest win of his professional career to date, Foley was critical of his own performance while stating that the fights conclusion should have arrived earlier.

“It was poor,” said Foley in a post-fight interview with Aus-Boxing.

“I got hit more than I should have. The stoppage would’ve came sooner had I not crowded my work,”

“I am the number one lightweight in Australia – for anyone that thinks otherwise – let’s go,”

With his latest win secured, Foley and his team – led by head trainer Tony Del Vecchio – will turn their attention to the next assignment in the shape of undefeated Australian lightweight champion Miles Zalewski.

“Let’s not beat around the bush here, he’s getting sparked out,” proclaimed Foley.

“He who rides on a tiger must never dismount.”

The Brisbane-based Zalewski (5-0, 3 KOs) will defend his national title for the first time against Foley as part of a stacked triple header presented by Angelo Di Carlo on November 28th, televised live nationwide on Channel 9.

World rated Trent Broadhurst will defend a WBA affiliated regional title against Australian light heavyweight champion Kerry Foley in the main event, as well as a grudge match between Shannon King and Rocky Jerkic.

So happy with the performance of both Tj Doheny and Darragh foley here is a little of what we witnessed
