Derrick Findley replaces injured Denis Douglin for Dunn US debut

DERRICK Findley has been announced as the short-notice opponent for undefeated Australian super middleweight Zac Dunn, who will make his US debut this weekend.

Dunn, 24, was already scheduled to face Denis Douglin this weekend at The Paramount in Huntington, New York. However, Douglin withdrew earlier this week after suffering an injury in his final sparring session.

Douglin perforated his left ear drum in a recent sparring session – and is not fit to fight under doctor’s orders – it was announced by Star Boxing president Joe DeGuardia.

Due to the 11th hour injury, Dunn’s American unveiling will not be a defense of his IBO super middleweight championship and the fight will instead be a ten round non-title contest.

Although the late notice is far from ideal for Findley (22-16-1, 14 KOs), he is coming off a third round stoppage of veteran Antwun Echols just a week ago in Indiana.

The 31-year-old Chicago native has been described by matchmaker Ron Katz as someone who “always comes to fight” as wins over Lamar Russ and Ronald Hearns have shown.

Dunn (18-0, 15 KOs) is in his final preparations at the nearby Academy of Boxing in Huntington Station, a stone’s throw from where he will make his US debut.

DeGuardia has choreographed an action-packed undercard to accompany Dunn’s bow in Saturday’s installment of the popular Rockin’ Fights series.
