Floyd Mayweather in talks for Australian Tour
YOU read the headline correctly.
Aus-Boxing understands that undefeated pound-for-pound king and Forbes’ highest paid athlete Floyd Mayweather is in talks for an Australian tour later this month.
A group of wealthy Australian investors, including a prominent Australian boxing identity are in talks to bring Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) across Australian for a five-day nationwide tour.
While Australia has had several boxing icons visit the country over the past decade – most notably Sugar Ray Leonard and Mike Tyson – there is no disputing the enormity of a visit from the unified WBC/WBA light middleweight and welterweight world champion.
Mayweather, 37, is the first athlete aside from Tiger Woods to earn $100 million in Forbes’ annual tally of the highest-paid athletes.
Although the details of the discussed tour remain understandably tight-guarded, Aus-Boxng understands that a visit Down Under from Mayweather would see the Las Vegas-based Mayweather make several public appearances, including visits to multiple Australian landmarks as well as an expected array of high-profile nightclub appearances.
The unidentified source of the story remained tight-lipped about any further details, but appeared confident in the fact that the deal was close to being finalised and that it would be in the latter stages of January.
