Historic Aussie US triple-header looms for August

 
IN what is yet another remarkable turn of events to hit Australian boxing in the last week, it appears likely that we may see a historic US triple-header featuring three Australian’s in separate title bouts in August.

 
Main Event’s Ben Damon broke the news last night, stating from his Twitter account, “August could be one huge night for Aussie #boxing in Brooklyn. Hearing Bika v Love, Fletcher v Jacobs & Dawson v Trout on same card.”

 
While there is yet to be an official announcement, the card is likely to be promoted by influential boxing advisor Al Haymon, who at this point, is one of if not the most powerful man in boxing.

 
Aus-Boxing understands that the recent resignation of Richard Schaefer at Golden Boy Promotions is a major starting point for this card taking place.

 
While it remains to be seen if Schaefer continues to work in boxing, or in particular with Haymon – who he has had a successful working relationship with – the card at this point looks certain to go ahead.

 
The date is still being finalised, but if it took place, it appears likely to fall on either August 2nd or August 9th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and would be televised live on Showtime Sports. Headlining the tentative card would be WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika (32-5-3, 21 KOs) defending his title against unbeaten Mayweather Promotions’ fighter J’Leon Love (18-0, 10 KOs).

 
The card would also feature former WBA light middleweight titlist Austin Trout (26-2, 14 KOs) against resurgent former title challenger Australian Daniel Dawson (40-3-1, 26 KOs) and an opening bout pitting Jarrod Fletcher (18-1, 10 KOs) against highly popular Brooklyn native Danny Jacobs (27-1, 24 KOs) for the recently created WBA ‘regular’ middleweight title.

 
Never before has an American telecast featured three Australian fighters, yet alone three Australian in what could potentially be three title fights.
