Jarrod Fletcher vs. Daniel Jacobs lands on August 9th in New York

AUSTRALIAN Jarrod Fletcher (18-1, 10 KOs) and his WBA ‘regular’ middleweight title shot against American Danny ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs (27-1, 24 KOs) has an official date and venue.

As previously reported by Aus-Boxing, the tentative Fletcher-Jacobs clash will land on August 9th from a picturesque Barclays Center in New York. The historic triple header – which will be televised live by US broadcasting giant Showtime Sports – will also feature a title defence from WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika in a rematch against Anthony Dirrell.

The televised card will be opened with a crossroads battle between former WBA light middleweight champion Austin ‘No Doubt’ Trout, who will be looking to break a two-fight losing streak against a resurgent Daniel Dawson.

Fletcher, 30, has risen from relative anonymity in the past twelve months, making his mark on the WBA ratings with an upset win over Max Bursak to lift the vacant WBA International title in February.

Despite having been in advanced negotiations several times, most notably his potential title attempts against former interim titlist Martin Murray and more recently Gennady Golovkin – Fletcher is eager to make an impact in his biggest fight to date.

Jacobs, 27, is without a doubt the most credible opponent Fletcher has faced in his five-year professional career. Jacobs is riding a seven-fight win streak and hasn’t seen past the fifth round in five years – which speaks volumes about the calibre of opponent Jacobs is – in spite of his lower rating within the WBA.
