Jayde Mitchell and Ryan Breese look to close 2016 in style

IN what looms as a critical point in both of their promising careers, undefeated Victorian pair Jayde Mitchell and Ryan Breese will square off tonight for a WBA affiliated regional title.

The ten-round title fight promises to be a spectacular match-up between two highly skilled high volume punchers.

Both sat down recently with Aus-Boxing to give their thoughts on the highly anticipated showdown.

Mitchell (5-0, 2 KOs), has had a promising 2015 – winning all four of his appearances – including wins over two previously undefeated fighters in the shape of Paul Morrison and Mitchell Middleton Clark.

The fight against local rival Breese, as Mitchell explains is one that has been brewing for some time.

“This is a fight I have wanted for a long time,” said Mitchell. “Ever since I won the Victorian super middleweight title, I have wanted that fight. He vacated it before I held it, so this is a validation fight for me,”

“It makes that title I won a bit more like my own if I beat him,”

“This is an intriguing fight, we both are super fit and are both undefeated,” continued Mitchell.

“He moves well and is quite athletic so this will be a big test for me, no doubt about it,”

“We both like to throw lots of punches and we have very similar stories in the sport. Both our fathers are our trainers, we are both undefeated and are both local boys,”

“I want to be fighting good quality opposition, I don’t want to take shortcuts,” he concluded. “I have previously mentioned that it was him I wanted to fight, and I did so respectfully,”

“None of this is personal of course – but I feel like I have fought the better opposition than he has – and I think that is what will make the difference come fight night,”

On the other hand we have Breese (7-0, 3 KOs), a former Victorian state champion and holder of a WBC affiliated regional title.

Unlike his undefeated counterpart, Breese’s professional journey has been relatively slow, with the popular southpaw having only fought once in 2015. In that fight, Breese outpointed Eric Diamandstein over eight heats.

“My preparation has been really solid,” he explained. “I have been training for the best part of ten weeks for this fight, so I am without doubt in the best shape of my career,”

“Mitchell will be my toughest test to date – as I am sure I will be his – but it will be one hell of a fight in my opinion. I have seen his last fight and you can’t help but be impressed with his progression,”

Despite his inactivity, Breese is confident that he will upsurge the more favoured Mitchell and halt the momentum of the Rye-based prospect.

“I’m not expecting anything less than a war, we are both very active guys who throw lots of punches. I’ve got a lot of respect for his skills, but we are really confident we can get the job done, I will be at my best,”

“He seems to have a bit of momentum at the moment,” he concluded. “We are pretty similar fighters and have similar family ties to the sport, and both being undefeated, it seems more than just a fight for me.”
