Jeff Horn agrees to Tszyu’s rematch refusal
JEFF Horn has personally stepped in to help break the deadlock that was threatening to derail his mega-fight with Tim Tszyu.
Horn’s promoter Dean Lonergan of D & L Events, and Tszyu’s representative Matt Rose of No Limit Boxing, have been a loggerheads over two major issues.
Lonergan wanted a rematch clause and a ten round bout; meanwhile Rose was against a contracted rematch, while also preferring a twelve round fight.
Today Horn declared he’s happy to accept the no rematch clause.
“I’m okay with Tszyu’s camp not wanting the rematch,” he told the gathered media.
“Tim is a very good boxer but I firmly believe I can beat him so the rematch clause won’t be needed.”
The former welterweight titleholder confirmed that he’ll also agree to the much anticipated blockbuster being contested over twelve rounds — on one condition.
“I want a ten round fight but I’ll agree to twelve rounds if they’ll agree to change the revenue split from 60/40 to 70/30,” he added.
“Tim’s already said he doesn’t care about the money so I expect that won’t be a problem if they want twelve rounds.
“Basically, I’ve given in to their two biggest demands, so the ball is now in their court.”
Horn (20-2-1, 13 KOs) also joked about having the ninth round removed from the fight.
“Maybe we make it an eleven round fight and just skip the ninth,” he quipped.
The ninth round has proven to be Horn’s bogey round, going back to when he was in serious trouble against Manny Pacquiao in 2017.
Several other conditions are yet to be decided; including a potential location, date and sponsorship arrangements.
