Lucas Browne lands lucrative Otto Wallin date
LAS Vegas has come calling for Lucas Browne.
A decade after making his professional debut, the former heavyweight titleholder will compete in America for the first time, after signing to face Otto Wallin (20-1, 13 KOs) in Las Vegas on March 29th.
The recently announced clash will take place within the Park Theater at the Park MGM, pitting Browne against the relatively unknown Swede who came within inches of blemishing Tyson Fury’s perfect record last September.
Staged as part of a tripleheader from TGB Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, the bout will be televised by American cable giant Showtime Sports, offering Browne (29-2, 24 KOs) a sizeable platform to reignite his world level ambitions.
Former bantamweight titleholder Luis Nery (30-0, 24 KOs) of Mexico will top the bill against countryman Aaron Alameda (25-0, 13 KOs) in an official super featherweight title eliminator.
The 40-year-old made headlines in January after declaring his intent to fight exclusively abroad on the back of his withdrawal from a March 7th date against domestic rival Demsey McKean (17-0, 11 KOs).
“The fans will never know what happened with the Demsey fight because I’m not going to say it,” said Browne in a series of social media posts.
“I’m not going to get myself in trouble for it. I don’t like the bullshit, I don’t like the lack of money, the promises, the threats and everything else. I’m never fighting in Australia again and that’s what is going to happen.
“There is no money in fighting Australians. No one gives a fuck about anyone fighting Australians. That’s why we’re the guys that go and get beat overseas. The money is overseas, fighting overseas fighters.
“My plan for 2020 in boxing is to fight in the UK and USA, make as much money as I can over the next sort of two years and retire happy. That’s pretty much the plan, we’ll see how we go.”
Browne last fought in November, flattening former national titleholder John Hopoate in two rounds. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Wallin will compete on American shores for the third consecutive outing, but for the first time since his loss to Fury.
