Lucas Browne reveals two-fight deal with Matchroom
FOR Lucas Browne, the rebuild from his lone career defeat to Dillian Whyte has been swift.
With his make-or-break clash with likeable Englishman Dave Allen on the horizon, the Perth-based heavyweight admits that he is in a good place, both physically and mentally.
“Physically, I’m in great shape, but I think mentally, I’ve made the changes that needed to be made,” Browne told the MAIN EVENT Boxing Podcast.
Reflecting on his one-sided defeat to WBC Silver titleholder Whyte in London last year, the 40-year-old concedes that the loss was inevitable.
“It’s an unfortunate thing, but yes, I wasn’t there,” he said.
“At that point in time, I was way too far into to do anything about it, so I had to go through with the process. I’ve watched it once or twice.
“As you can imagine, people are always tagging me in things through Dillian Whyte. It was a very expensive and painful lesson learned, I take it as something that needed to happen.
“That was my one and only loss, it’s not as if I’ve lost ten fights. People think I’m going to retire because I’ve had one loss. It was an unfortunate mess up on my end and I’ve got a loss.
“It’s a learning experience on my end and I’ve done everything I need to do, I’m back on the horse.”
Browne (28-1, 24 KOs) is on the verge of a lucrative chapter in his career, having split with long-time promoter, Hatton Boxing.
Despite the anguish the initial separation caused, Browne sees his new short-term partnership with Matchroom Boxing as the silver lining.
“This is what I want to do with my life at the moment, boxing,” he continued.
“At the moment, I’ve signed a two-fight deal with Matchroom. If I had to choose, I’d choose Matchroom anyway.
“I’ve always been looked after [by them], great shows and I’ve never had a problem with Matchroom or Eddie Hearn.
“I think Dave Allen and myself will put on a good show, and that’s the most important thing. Win, lose or draw, if we both put on a good fight, it’s all about the fans.”
When probed on his future plans, Browne revealed a plan to meet with popular divisional gatekeeper and former amateur star, David Price.
“I’ve signed a contract to say that if I do beat Allen, I get Price. It’ll be full steam ahead, for sure,” he concluded.
“It’s a very exciting time, there’s definitely some good big money fights happening around the place, I’m very excited.”
