Lucas Browne vs. Dillian Whyte looms for March 24th

A tirade of trash talk has culminated in the signing of a can’t-miss thriller between Lucas Browne and Dillian Whyte.

Whyte, 29, and Browne, 38, have traded barbs on social media for months, with the only apparent speed bump being WBO heavyweight ruler Joseph Parker initially considering Browne as an opponent, while simultaneously negotiating with divisional kingpin Anthony Joshua.

The fight will take place at The O2 Arena in London on March 24th with Whyte (22-1, 16 KOs) scheduled to make the first defence of his WBC Silver heavyweight throne – while also risking his mandatory status to face Deontay Wilder – against Browne (25-0, 22 KOs) in a fight that has created a stir in recent weeks.

The Jamaican-born Whyte, who now calls London home, failed to impress in his most recent outing against unwilling heavyweight spoiler Robert Helenius in October. However, the hard-hitting former British titleholder is hoping to use Browne as a springboard to mouth-watering clashes against domestic rivals Tony Bellew and to a lesser degree, a rematch against Anthony Joshua.

Event promoter Eddie Hearn has worked tirelessly to secure a meaningful fight for Whyte, who has campaigned for a marquee name in the heavyweight division for the last twelve months. A fruitful relationship between Hearn and Browne’s promoter Ricky Hatton assisted negotiations between the teams, who mutually voiced their interest in the fight while negotiations failed to gain traction in alternate discussions with Joseph Parker (for Browne) and Deontay Wilder (for Whyte).

An official announcement is expected in the coming days as the aforementioned titleholders Joshua and Parker wind down negotiations for their looming heavyweight title unification.
