Luke Sharp talks Blake Caparello, motivation to fight and more

 
MOST boxing pundits would argue that Blake Caparello is the man to beat domestically at super middleweight.

 
In spite of his lofty regard and world rating, the defensively sound Melburnian hasn’t been able to lure a fellow Australian into facing him for four years.

 
Enter, Luke Sharp.

 
The undermined West Australian has received the opportunity to score the biggest domestic upset of the year, signing to face the former world title challenger for his WBO regional strap on November 11th in Melbourne.

 
“I want to show people I can step into a fight short notice and put on a world class display against a world rated fighter,” said Sharp in an interview with Aus-Boxing.

 
“I want to show the Australian public that I am a world class boxer who deserves more of these chances.”

 
Sharp, 27, who holds a win over former Commonwealth title challenger Peter Mitrevski Jnr, has won five of his last six fights with his the only blemish coming in the shape of a draw against well-travelled Irishman Joe Rea in April.

 
While many see Sharp (13-2-3, 6 KOs) as a clear underdog for his regional title tilt against Caparello (21-1-1, 6 KOs), Sharp believes that his recent experiences have equipped him for the biggest fight of his professional career.

 
“I have learnt that I can handle anyone at any level,” continued Sharp. “I can handle the most awkward, heavy hitting boxers that there are to offer. But this is definitely the biggest fight of my career,”

 
“I fought Peter Mitrevski for the IBO Asia Pacific middleweight title, but this is bigger,”

 
“It is not a question of if I can win, but a question of when.”

 
Having fought in a handful of divisions varying from middleweight to light heavyweight, Sharp is hopeful that his looming spell at super middleweight proves to be his most successful yet.

 
“This is the most motivated I have been for a very long time and I am ready to go,” he concluded.

 
“I will be on my A game come November 11th, don’t worry about that.”
