Renold Quinlan warns Damien Hooper: “I’ll make you retire from boxing”

RENOLD Quinlan will say just about anything to get a piece of Damien Hooper.

Quinlan launched a remarkable tirade at fellow Indigenous prospect Hooper on his Instagram account yesterday after it came to light that the team of the highly regarded light heavyweight had been seeking a fight with Quinlan’s mentor, Anthony Mundine.

The hard-hitting Quinlan (11-2, 7 KOs) has been inactive since February, where the Sydney resident surrendered his IBO super middleweight throne in ten competitive rounds to Chris Eubank Jr in London.

Since then, the 28-year-old has taken to his social media accounts in an attempt to secure high-profile fights abroad against Martin Murray as well as a potential rematch against former Australian super middleweight titleholder Jake Carr, the only other fighter to beat him.

Quinlan’s controversial comments towards Hooper (13-1, 8 KOs), who presently holds the WBO and IBF International light heavyweight titles, are a bold attempt to lure the former Olympian – whose stock is at an all-time high – into a mouth watering domestic collision.

“Any place bra, stop trying to make a name off Choc, with all due respect, I’ll step up,” said Quinlan in his Instagram post. “The difference between me and you, is that I’ve never been knocked out cold,”

“That’s right, I’ve never been knocked out cold. I guarentee that I’ll knock you out cold, I’ll make you retire from boxing. That’s the real talk, you know and your team know I’m dangerous.”

“Sign the contract,” he concluded. “If not let’s get a contract together and let’s fight.”

The 25-year-old Hooper last fought on the Pacquiao vs. Horn card, where he scored a career best unanimous decision win over previously unbeaten Russian Umar Salamov.
