Ruslan Chagaev to Lucas Browne: “I will punish you”

RUSLAN Chagaev is a man of few words.

The Uzbekistan-born heavyweight is taking a strictly business approach to the second defense of his WBA regular heavyweight title, which will take place on Sunday morning EST at the Colosseum Sport Hall in Grozny.

Chagaev, 37, has spent his camp working under the guidance of renowned Miami-based strategist Pedro Diaz as well as Ramzan Akhmatovich, an acquaintance of Chagaev who also serves as the Head of the Chechen Republic.

Speaking at a media gathering, Chagaev gave a brief insight into his blueprint for beating Browne.

“We have developed a strategy to fight and train according to the chosen strategy,” said Chagaev.

“The actual output will be correct, depending on what the situation will develop in the ring.”

“Ramzan Akhmatovich has a very serious approach to this process,” he continued. “For me, this support is a big plus and the incredible power that gives confidence. I always agree with him, and I hope to win.”

While both Chagaev (34-2-1, 21 KOs) and Browne (23-0, 20 KOs) have been cordial in their exchanges, Chagaev hasn’t taken well to a recent statement from the Australian, where he implied that he needs a knockout to win.

Although Chagaev isn’t taking these comments personally, he admits that he will make Browne pay for his words.

“I believe such a statement on his part is disrespect,” he concluded.

“Let it remain on his conscience. In the ring, I will punish you.”
