Team Caparello stunned by Dessaix victory claims
IN the days following his decision loss in Melbourne, Reagan Dessaix’s team quickly refute the decision.
With the dust settling on the light heavyweight clash, which was won unanimously by Caparello (now 29-3-1, 12 KOs), the long-time trainer of the Melbourne-based southpaw, Sam Labruna, has fired back.
“We clearly won the fight and at no stage as a team in the corner was there any doubt,” said Labruna in a press release.
“Blake won all the early rounds then went on to shut Reagan out in the ninth and especially the tenth round to put it way beyond doubt.
“Reagan may have looked busy with that amateur style but in professional boxing punches landed and power punching is what counts and Blake was up in both departments.”
Caparello, 32, who had previously flirted with a move up to cruiserweight, took a WBA affiliated regional bauble off Dessaix (now 16-2, 11 KOs) in a fight that proved difficult to score.
Despite the split amongst the public, Caparello’s team believe their charge was a clear winner.
“The controversy on social media is only Reagan Dessaix and his fans,” Labruna continued.
“I can assure you that I have had over 50 phone calls from people in the boxing industry and not one said Reagan won. There certainly wasn’t any protest from Reagan’s father after the fight.
“He thanked me for the opportunity and said he would love to come back to Melbourne to fight on one of my shows.
“Does that sound like someone who has been robbed? I have the upmost respect for Clem and Reagan and the whole team but please let’s be professional and move on.”
“Our team we have lots of big fights and shows for 2019 and we will stay motivated and keep the show rolling.”
