Tim Tszyu sets Friday deadline for Horn deal

AFTER weeks of negotiating, Tim Tszyu and his representatives have grown impatient with Jeff Horn.

What seemed like a certainty to be signed for April may no longer be the case, with Tszyu (15-0, 11 KOs) setting a Friday deadline with the team of Horn (20-2-1, 13 KOs) to finalise a deal.

A meeting will take place in Sydney between Tszyu’s promoter, Matt Rose of No Limit Boxing, and Dean Lonergan of D & L Events, according to leading broadcaster Ben Damon.

“Team Tszyu, they’re pretty keen for Tim Tszyu to fight as soon as possible,” he told Fox Sports News.

“We have a deadline of this Friday for negotiations to take place and this all to be agreed upon. With that, the Horn team have said okay, let’s meet on Friday and nut the rest of this out.

“They’re going to sit down on Friday in Sydney, that’ll be of course Tim Tszyu’s promoter in Matt Rose and Jeff Horn’s in Dean Lonergan to figure the rest of this out and see if they can bring these two together, sooner rather than later.”

Despite the apparent interest of both sides, and an agreement on a 60/40 split in Horn’s favour, a slew of logistics for the event are yet to be confirmed, including a potential venue and undercard.

In addition to this, Horn’s team are now receptive to a possible clash in Sydney, after initially ruling out Tszyu’s home state as a potential location earlier this month.

“There’s a lot to be figured out, but I think it makes sense for this fight to get done some time this year,” Damon added.

“Whether that’s in the first half of the year, most likely in April, or if it takes place as the second fight for these two fighters.

“We’ll know after Friday, but they’re going to sit down with every intention of getting this fight done for April.”
