Weigh-In Results: Ricky Burns vs. Josh King
WORLD rated lightweight Josh King has successfully made weight ahead of the biggest fight of his career tomorrow morning.
King, 30, will challenge former two-division world champion Ricky Burns (38-5-1, 12 KOs) for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
Burns, 32, represents the biggest challenge of King’s professional career with a win likely leading to an eventual shot at reigning WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan next year.
Speaking from his Merseyside base, King (20-3, 9 KOs) spoke to Aus-Boxing about his looming title fight.
“I’ve learnt a lot with the last few fights with nutrition and making sure everything is in place,” said King.
“The last ten days have been the most important in making sure that I’m in the best shape I can be,”
“It’s a massive fight for me and for all us boxers in Australia. I’m confident I can get the job done for us Aussies,”
The regional title tilt against Burns marks the first fight for King under the guidance of his new trainers John Lindgren and Shane Hooper, who worked with King during his successful amateur career.
“For this fight I’ve just teamed up with John Lindgren and Shane Hooper at the Bad Boys Gym in Townsville,”
“I trained a lot with these guys back in the amateurs. They have really brought back the old Josh King with the aggression and hunger,”
Although the Townsville native isn’t short on motivation, he admits the likelihood of a world title shot for the winner has provided an extra incentive for him to pull off the major upset.
“That was always going to add motivation for me – but with saying that – my objective is to beat Ricky Burns.”
