Weigh-In Results: Tommy Coyle 134, Michael Katsidis 134.5

MICHAEL Katsidis will look to recapture the form of his glory days when he challenges Englishman Tommy Coyle early tomorrow morning (AEST) for the IBF International lightweight title from the Hull Arena.

Katsidis, 34, has spent six weeks in Manchester under the guidance of former British champion Maurice Core, in the hope of scoring a mild upset win that will launch him back into relevance in the lightweight division.

Coyle and Katsidis both came in under the lightweight limit – with Coyle tipping the scales at a trim 134 pounds – while Katsidis came in at 134.5 pounds.

“I’m here to prove that I still have plenty left to offer – and there will be no questioning my future after Hull,” said Katsidis in an earlier interview with Boxing News. “I’ve been over here for a while, settling in, getting comfortable in his backyard and ready to perform at my best on the night. I don’t know much about Tommy, but I know that he is in for a tough night on the 25th.”

“I’m really enjoying the training and I love being in England. The Lightweight division over here is really flying, there’s some great fights here for me, and a big win over Tommy will put me right back on the map.

“It’s an honour to be working with Maurice in Manchester, he’s worked with some great champions like Prince Naseem Hamed, and we’ve really clicked so everything is in great order. I love boxing and this is what I do, this isn’t a job for me, this is love.”

If Katsidis is successful against Coyle, he will enter the IBF top fifteen world ratings and will surely earn himself another tilt at the lightweight championship.
