Zac Dunn on Derrick Findley: “I know he is prepared to fight”

THE opponent may have changed, but for undefeated Australian super middleweight Zac Dunn, the task hasn’t.

The big-punching Melburnian, who blasted his way through seventeen successive opponents, before ousting the crafty Max Bursak in a gutsy decision win in June, makes his US debut in New York tomorrow.

Dunn (18-0, 15 KOs) was originally pencilled in to face the tricky Denis Douglin in the first defence of his IBO super middleweight title, until a late perforated eardrum suffered by the American scuppered those plans.

Speaking from his New York base, the 24-year-old Australian, who has adopted a strictly business approach to this fight, doesn’t appear to bothered by the change of opponent.

“Dennis suffered a ruptured ear drum in his training, I can’t control what happens in his preparation,” said Dunn in an interview with Aus-Boxing. “I’m not concerned one bit, this is boxing and these things happen in the game.”

“Derrick Findley fought the other week and I know he is prepared to fight. It doesn’t effect my preparation at all,”

Findley, 31, has dropped four of his last six fights, but has fought substantially better opposition than Dunn. The durable American has dropped decisions to regarded prospects Arif Magomedov, Jesse Hart and Maxim Vlasov.

The only two fighters to have scored stoppages over Findley are former world title challengers Edwin Rodriguez and Andre Dirrell, both by corner retirement.

Despite the change to of opponent from southpaw to orthodox, Dunn is under the impression that it will make no difference on fight night.

“I can fight southpaw fighters and orthodox fighters. I’ll fight whoever is put in front of me.”

“I’m feeling great, I have heaps of energy,” he concluded. “My mind is only on one job and that’s fighting this Saturday night.”

“It’s a great opportunity to come over here and show off my ability in New York as a current Australian world champion.”
