Rocky Jerkic looks to continue unbeaten streak
SUPER talented Rocky Jerkic will look to continue his rich vein of form.
The unbeaten prospect laces up the gloves for the third time in six months against Thailand’s Eakkhunpol Krungthepthonburi in this Saturday night’s Chin Music Promotions card at the Whitlam Leisure Centre in Liverpool.
The 27-year-old Jerkic, who originally hails from Gladstone in Queensland, has been a busy fighter of late and the crafty Jerkic (9-0, 7 KOs) explains that he wouldn’t want it any other way.
“Yeah it’s been really good fighting regularly. I haven’t really had that luxury so far in my career due to things happening outside the ring,” said Jerkic in an interview with Aus-Boxing.
“So to come here to One World Gym to team up with Rob (Fogarty) has made it all worthwhile. I feel like I am starting to get a rhythm going, instead of stopping and starting like I have in the past so it has been great for me,”
While little is known about his opponent, one thing is for sure, Jerkic doesn’t plan on taking the tough Thai lightly.
“No you can afford to do that,” Jerkic explained. “In this game, you have to be careful with guys like this,”
“Having said that, I am very confident we can get the job done and hopefully it is just another step in the right direction moving forward.”
Jerkic made it known that those steps forward are towards the ultimate prize of a world title belt strapped around his waist. He also knows that these things take time but also reiterated that he is 27 years old and that time might not be on his side.
“I’m aware of my age and that building towards world titles takes a lot of time, but my aim at the moment is to get past this guy on Saturday night and look to fight again very soon after that,” Jerkic said.
“I just want to fight and stay busy,”
“Hopefully by the end of the year, I will have a solid world ranking with one of the major organisations,” Jerkic continued. “Then we can state our case by beating some of those guys ranked above me, that’s me immediate aim,”
Jerkic hasn’t been taking extended breaks between his recent busy fight schedule, instead letting his body rest for a few days in between fights then getting straight back in the gym to fine tune what is already a freakish skill set.
He is happy, focused and is in the best place of his career not only physically, but mentally as well.
“Yeah the relationship I have here with Rob Fogarty and everyone at One World Gym is going really well. We all get along great and I feel since I have come here I have reached another level. We are all gelling very well together and everyone is on the same page.”
“It hasn’t always been like that for me in the past but everyone here has been really supportive and it’s something I appreciate,”
Jerkic says that he feels his best is yet to come.
“I feel I have more room to grow,” said Jerkic in closing.
“I am only getting better and better and that was the whole idea. I feel like I am getting to a level where I can start to make serious inroads in my career,”
That’s a scary proposition for future opponents.
