Anthony Buttigieg recaps 2015 progress, fighting Sam Colomban

FAST rising prospect Anthony Buttigieg continues his development tonight when he faces durable veteran Samuel Colomban at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

Buttigieg, 27, has had an impressive year with clear cut victories over Ben Capps and a one-sided stoppage over US veteran Fred Tukes. Buttigieg’s opposition doesn’t get any easier with the hard-nosed Colomban (22-7, 10 KOs).

Colomban, 30, may have dropped four of his last six fights, but they have been at a competitive level with only the best fighters in this region defeating the well-travelled Cameroonian native.

In an interview with Aus-Boxing, Buttigieg explains why his next performance will be one of his best yet.

“I thought I fought a good fight against Tukes and made next to no mistakes that night,” said Buttigieg.

“I had only two weeks off and then started training for this fight,”

“I’ve pushed myself to the limits the last few weeks – everything is on track – I’m now resting up.”

Colomban holds credible wins over Philip Holiday, Steve Heremaia and one-time prospect Leti Leti, but the rugged Melbournian believes it will not be enough to get him over the line.

“On paper, Colomban will be my toughest fight to date. He’s a seasoned fighter who has been in there with some good fighters and has done the rounds,”

“I believe it will be an entertaining fight and that’s what my fights are all about,” he elaborated. “I don’t expect it to be an easy night but I know I’ll be coming home with the goods,”

For Buttigieg (9-0, 2 KOs), the non-title assignment with Colomban will be his second on a televised pay-per-view card in twelve months, with his first appearance being a decision win over popular rival Joel Camilleri.

While he admits that tonight’s fight will be his last for the year, he is grateful for the opportunity given that he will take semi-main event billing to Anthony Mundine’s WBC Silver title defence.

“I’m very honoured to fight on such a big card,” Buttigieg concluded. “I fought on the last Mundine undercard only this time I’m stoked to be main support,”

“This will be my last fight for the year and one more win will top off a decent year for me. I’ll keep building myself up and take next year as it comes,”
