Jack Brubaker: “I’ve made a lot of sacrifices to get where I am”
WHILE all eyes will be on the highly publicized return of Danny Green, charismatic welterweight prospect Jack Brubaker will be looking to steal the show in his prelim topping title bout later tonight.
Brubaker, 23, aptly titled ‘The Ripper’ will challenge reigning WBC Youth welterweight champion Yang Xing Xin for his coveted green belt as well as the vacant OPBF welterweight title at Hisense Arena.
The Cronulla-based Brubaker (8-1-1, 3 KOs) was originally slated to challenge Xin (10-3-2, 7 KOs) for his regional strap in China on June 6th, however like most scheduled shows in China, it ultimately fell through.
As fate will have it, Brubaker will still get his title opportunity and this time around it will be on home soil.
When probed on his thoughts on the magnitude of tonight’s event, Brubaker answered with great pride.
“To be fighting under an Australian legend Danny Green, it is a great privilege and honour,” said Brubaker in an interview with Aus-Boxing. “I thrive on big shows and they don’t get any bigger than this,”
“I’m excited to show Australia and the world what I can do and put all the hard work and sacrifices into the ring.”
“It’s definitely a relief that this fight is now secure,” added Brubaker.
“There were a few days were I thought it wasn’t going to happen,”
“Everything happens for a reason, especially now having it on home soil. Xin’s manager told me last night that over 40 million people in China will be watching this fight.”
Only a handful of Australian fighters have held the WBC Youth title over the past decade – with reigning IBO super middleweight champion Zac Dunn being the most recent – having won the belt in 2013.
For Brubaker, the opportunity to fight for the esteemed title is something he duly acknowledges.
“To have an opportunity to fight for the WBC Youth title – which is such a prestigious belt – I think every young boxer dreams about from when they jump in the ring on there first fight,”
“I’ve made a lot of sacrifices to get where I am,” said Brubaker in closing.
“Tomorrow when I wake up next to that green belt it will be worth every hour spent in the gym,”
