Lucas Browne fails post-fight drug test following Chagaev win

 
LUCAS Browne has failed his post-fight drug test following his dramatic knockout win over Ruslan Chagaev.

 
The drug test, which was administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), cites that Browne had allegedly tested positive for Clenbuterol, a sympathomimetic amine that is commonly used as a fat burning tool.

 
The positive result was released in an email issued by VADA president Dr. Margaret Goodman, obtained by ESPN.

 
“This letter is to advise you that the ‘A’ sample urine specimen number 2998060 collected from Lucas Browne has been analyzed for anabolic agents, diuretics, beta-2 agonists and stimulants,” said Goodman.

 
“The results of the analysis are as follows: Adverse. Urine specimen contains Clenbuterol.” she continued. “Mr. Browne has the right to promptly request analysis of the ‘B’ sample at his expense.”

There are several possible ramifications of the positive result – including the 36-year-old Browne potentially being stripped of his historic WBA heavyweight title – and the win being classified as a no contest.

 
Given untimely nature of the test result, Aus-Boxing is yet to receive a statement from Hatton Promotions.

 
Earlier today, World Boxing News issued a report stating that VADA do not release their results to the public.

 
“I can confirm we tested both Mr. Chagaev and Mr. Browne the week of the fight and post-fight per a request from representatives of the BDB (German Boxing Commission),” said VADA to World Boxing News

 
“VADA does not release results to the public, so any information regarding results would have to be obtained from the commission, the athletes or their representatives.”

 
A release is imminently expected from Hatton Promotions.
