David Letizia on final fight, Rob Powdrill rematch and more

POPULAR Perth resident David Letizia made his professional debut almost twenty years ago.

Tonight the former West Australian cruiserweight champion will end his seventeen fight career when he steps into the ring for the final time against Rob Powdrill (4-1, 1 KO) at Perth’s famed Italian Club.

Letizia, 44, who at one point held the interim PABA light heavyweight bauble will look to close the book on his career with a win in his twelve round IBO affiliated regional title fight.

“This will be my last fight and I want it to be remembered,” said Letizia in an exclusive interview with Aus-Boxing. “Rob is a hard warrior – and he’ll be there until the end – to me it’s the perfect fight.

“I’ve always known that Rob is not one to underestimate and he proved this in that in his last fight with Damien Hooper,”

Although Letizia (11-4-1, 4 KOs) holds a win over Powdrill from their first fight six years ago, he will no doubt enter the rematch as the underdog. Since their first meeting, Powdrill has won three consecutive fights, scoring wins over Ricardo Monteleone, Ben Page and a huge knockout over Damien Hooper.

“He has definitely has improved as a fighter in every way,” Letizia continued. “A few more boxing fights will do him the world of good,”

With his curtain call fast approaching, Letizia was full of praise for his business partner Ty Colman, who he credits for all of the success he achieved as a fighter.

“Ty and myself have been friends for many years and he is more like a little brother to me than a partner, but saying that we compliment each other in many ways,” said Letizia in closing.

“He has been very important in my career because of the many opportunities that he has created for me. Our partnership and CDL Promotions will only get stronger and stronger because of it,”
